Witch’s Brew: For All Mother’s Children

Filed under: Eclectic — enyo @ 6:24 am

Here I am, back by popular demand. And I’ve got a lot of reviews to catch up on based on the searches in my logs.

Witches Brew was requested, and there’s about a billion sites out there under that name, so Google is only so much of a help. Maybe eventually, I’ll find the one that was requested, but until then… Well, I’ll just periodically review any random Witches/Witch’s Brew that comes across my monitor, I guess.

This Witch’s Brew is one of the oldest sites on the Pagan web, having been around for about 9 years. And I don’t think much has changed on there in those 9 years, either.

Things I hate about the index page: the background is annoying. It’s out of focus, which my eyes hate. But if it were in focus, it would compete with the text for legability. So, IMO, it should be scrapped. The text is comic sans, which I believe is evil. There’s that horrible, awful scrolling text box, which serves no other purpose than to give me motion sickness. And then there’s the text link to enter a page that I should have gone straight to, in the first place.

Things I like about the index page: I’ll get back to you. :P
And now I’m in. It took forever to load on my DSL. I shudder to think how long it would have taken me back at my parent’s house, where 28.8 was a *good* connection day. After waiting for a few minutes, I realized that it took so long because the page goes on forever. I would have broken that content up into about four different pages. And I certainly wouldn’t have centered all the text, since it makes it so much harder to read.

In the end, it looks like the web mistress has done *some* work to make the site more navigable since losing the original domain, but clearly not enough. It typically helps to restructure things a bit while making your site more navigable. The information on there is, for the most part, okay, but can be found on other, newer sites, and can certainly be found in a more user-friendly format.

Go to see a relic, not to spend the day. Because you’ll get lost, and then you won’t want to be there at all.
