Keep Wicca Traditional Ribbon Campaign

Filed under: Satire — enyo @ 4:56 pm

This is one of my all-time favorite sites, particularly when a bunny ticks me off. It features the “Whack a Bunny” game, rants from angry bunnies, and the KWT’s reasons for why bunny Wicca (also known as Wicca-lite) sucks. It downloads pretty quick, and also has a nice little page (well, not exactly nice, but brutally honest, anyway) about why they don’t agree with Scott Cunningham’s watered-down definition of Wicca. Honestly, whenever someone tells me that s/he’s a great Wiccan after having read two books, I like to send them here. It’s not an educational page that tells you about color correspondances or moon phases, but it is an educational page in that it lets you know that some Trad Wiccans out there are sick of their title being usurped by all and sundry.

Witch4Ever’s Wicca Page

Filed under: Personal Sites — enyo @ 6:32 am

I feel nauseated. The world famous spinning pentacle is there, with, of course, no credit. The Wiccan Rede is quoted as “AN’ YE HARM NONE, DO AS YE WILL”, and it’s a sacred law. Wicca is 8000 years old. Wicca and witchcraft are interchangable. “Real” witches will only use magick to help someone, not to hurt them. In short, I didn’t find a single damned thing on this site that is accurate. The colors are annoying. The whole page is pretty much centered, which sucks when the eye is trained to go from left to right and there’s no clear margin. In short, I think this is a web page done by a one-book-wonder. :P Don’t come here if you actually want decent info.

Witch in the Eyes

“A number of women scattered around the world responded to an impulse to leave their individual covens, congregate in a new country and weave their magic together” It’s an Aussie website, and one of my favourites. Very thought provoking..

Why Wiccans Suck

Filed under: Satire — enyo @ 6:01 am

The first few lines on the website read like this…. “So, you heard about the page and showed up to tell me off? Then you are part of the problem. Being a Wiccan makes you feel Special, eh? Well shove your pride back down your throat, kids! This is your wake-up call” And it gets better with every line. A real eye opener, but beware, some may be offended..

Morrigan’s Cairn

Filed under: Celtic — enyo @ 7:21 pm

Um, okay… Where to start. The first page is junky and cluttered with graphics. Not pretty graphics. The backgrounds on some pages are too hard to read because it’s got a nasty lacy texture. I didn’t find anything of *fact*, and numerous opinions that I disagree with. (For starters, self-initiation. You don’t self-initiate, you self-dedicate. I don’t think, no matter how badly this person wishes it to be so, that the Morrigan came down and *personally* initiated this person.) She also seems to have some *serious* issues with Recons, without seeming to realize what Recon is all about. All in all, little fact, lots of opinions. Little web design, lots of overcompensation with graphics and backgrounds. I’ll give her credit for one thing, though… You have to *make* the midi file play, rather than it playing whether you like it or not.

Nova Romana: Rome Reborn

Filed under: Religio Romana — enyo @ 7:18 pm

The first thought that popped into my head when I opened this site was “Wow!” I mean, it’s absolutely beautifully done with muted colors that make it easy to read. The marble background is fitting, especially when one takes into account the Roman fondness for using marble. The site is beautifully organized, and goes into plenty of details regarding the running of the organization itself. Also, it gives excellent amounts and a great quality of information on the religious practices of Ancient Rome, including festivals and observances. For *anyone* interested in Roman Reconstructionism, or Religio Romana, (and knows that Religio Romana isn’t the same as Hellenic Reconstructionism) I would recommend this site hands down.

Internet Sacred Texts Archive

Filed under: Texts — enyo @ 4:51 pm

This is easily one of the most educational sites that I’ve ever seen. It’s got the texts of every path that I’ve ever heard of, and a ton of others that I never even knew existed. Christianity includes some texts that I firmly believe that everyone, regardless of path, should read (including the Gospel of Thomas and the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri). In addition, the Classics section includes Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, as well as works by Sophocles and Plato. The Roman works of Virgil and Ovid are included as well. This is a must bookmark site.

Children of Artemis

Filed under: Eclectic — enyo @ 3:57 pm

At first glance, this page is awful, and the second glance wasn’t much better. I mean, it’s painful to view. The colors are so harsh and glaring that it made my eyes water.

Primarily, it looks like a badly done “buy this crap/subscribe to this magazine” site. To me, not much is tackier than having credit card logos in the top and center frame. :P All that, and the pages are slow, too. (I had to wait for pages to load, and I’m on a cable modem.)

Their objectives read like lessons in how to be a bunny. They offer a spell a day, but with no information as to the theories behind making the spell *work*. And they treat the Rede like it’s 8 words. Please, folks, if you’re really interested in Wicca, check out the Starkindler.org site or (if you want general witchcraft information) the Book of Shadows reviewed here.
