Wiccan Web

Filed under: Regional — enyo @ 5:55 pm

I came across this site because someone searched for it in my logs. Upon getting to the site, I found a PHPNuke-type site. Now, before we all collectively groan about the existance of yet *another* Nuke site, this one seems to be different than the norm.

Now, let’s start with the con’s. I’m having a “glass is half-empty” type of day, so let’s just get those out of the way. The one thing that sucks is that it requires membership. I’ve gotten to the point where I *hate* things that require that I become a member. It’s just one more thing to keep track of. Yes, of course, I understand that it’s a community type thing. That’s what I was shooting for with Paganetwork when I was using Nuke. It’s just… meh. No more memberships for a while. :P The other thing is that when I clicked on the “about WiccanWeb”, it opened into a new window. I hate it when things open in new windows. Largely because I surf in Firefox, and there’s no command for “open in a new tab”, I guess. The only time, IMO, that someone should have a link open in a new window is if it’s an external link.

But there’s some good stuff. While it’s another Nuke site, it’s not another news site, it’s not another attempt at being everything in the world. There are a *ton* of book reviews, written by a variety of people. The “Wicca for Parents” thing I don’t quite agree with, but I understand why it is written as it is. The goal is really to ease the minds of parents whose wee ones are developing an interest in paganism, not to be a Wicca 101 lesson for those who want to practice. (And, as always, I have a quibble with the “Wicca is not a cult” thing. If it was good enough for Gardner, it’s good enough for me.) (more…)

Stella Australis

This site is a site a Geocities site regarding paganism in Australia. It’s a pretty page to look at, except for the few broken graphics, but the navigation is really… odd. It’s not consistant per section, and some links take you out of the site, even though they’re really no different than the internal link. If you’ve got more patience than I do, you might enjoy the site. Some of the chants and songs are ones that I’ve not seen, but there’s no credit given on some of them. I don’t know if the web master/mistress wrote them, or if they belong to someone else. Still, the info isn’t bad. Just… be wary, since we don’t know where it all came from. :P
